It looks as though the ground is going to be on the soft side for this year’s renewal. The two horses disputing favouritism are Samurai Way and Fair Along who offer very different profiles.

Samurai Way has earlier been trained for a crack at the Ebor but failed to make the cut and has since stepped up in distance with this race in mind. That step up in trip has brought about improvement and he looks like he should give a good account.

Fair Along has not run since finishing second in the Chester Cup but is more famous for his efforts over the jumps. He comes from the same stable that sent out Detroit City to win last year’s contest so the absence isn’t a worry and he is also proven on ground with a bit of cut in it.

Both horses are currently available at 6/1 with the sponsors Totesport.

Of the outsiders, Enjoy The Moment is interesting at 16/1 with Bet365. He has improved all season and really wants an out and out stamina test which he should receive here. Dr Sharp is another interesting one having been well backed in the last few days. He loves soft ground and these sorts of contests and has a great draw for a front runner in 31. Betfred go 20/1 and he is sure to trade shorter in running.
