Premiership Relegation Betting 08/09

The Premiership relegation betting market is dominated by newly promoted sides Stoke and Hull, who are both odds on for relegation. Hull City are best odds 4/11 favourites for relegation with Paddy Power, and Stoke City 4/9 with Betfred. With 2 of last season’s three promoted sides (Birmingham and Derby) both relegated, the stats are certainly against Hull and Stoke.

The third promoted side, West Brom are best odds 5/4 with Sporting Bet for the drop, whilst other sides the bookies expect to struggle are Fulham, Bolton and Wigan all at odds of 11/4. All these sides made a strong improvement in the second half of last season under new managers.

Online bookmakers have introduced some special betting markets in the Premiership relegation market, including “To Finish Bottom”. This market is dominated by Hull 13/8 and Stoke 15/8. West Brom are available at best odds 7/1 to finish bottom. Not since Southampton in 04/05 has bottom position been filled by a team who wasn’t promoted the previous year.

Another special relegation betting market is the “relegation treble” market, a special offered exclusively by Paddy Power. The favourite bet at odds of 5/1 is West Brom, Stoke and Hull all to be relegated.
