Newmarket Guineas Betting Preview

The 1000 Guineas is one of the five British classic races run by 3 year old fillies. The Guineas meeting takes place at Newmarket over the Rowley Mile course, and the 1000 Guineas event is run over a straight mile.

The race has been won by a number of great horses over the years, and in the 21st century alone winners include the likes of Russian Rhythm, Attraction and Finceal Beo.

The 2008 1000 Guineas looks to have opinions divided amongst bookmakers and racing fans alike, as the first four in the field are all odds of 5/1 and under, making this year’s 1000 Guineas one of the most competitive in recent years. There is little to separate Natagora at best odds 3/1 and Infallible 4/1 (both with Ladbrokes) in the betting market, with Muthabara and Spacious attracting a lot of interest at 9/2 and 5/1 respectively. All of these horses have already had a run this season – and all won, making this year’s race extremely competitive.

When trying to pick the winner of the 1000 Guineas there are some interesting stats from previous year’s races. First up is the fact that 8/10 winners from the last 10 years have been trained in the UK, which is not a good sign for the French raider Natagora.

6 of the previous 10 winners have won their previous race, which all four favourites this year have obliged.
